Join our Instructor Development Course (IDC) to become part of an elite group of professionals who teach the most progressive and popular scuba diver education programs in the world. After completing the IDC, you’ll undertake the Instructor Examination (IE), the final step to earning your SDI Instructor certification.

If you’re already an instructor with another diver training organization, you may qualify to enroll directly in the IE, recognizing your previous training and providing a streamlined path to becoming an SDI Instructor.

  • Be an SDI Divemaster with at least six months as a certified diver (or equivalent).
  • Have a minimum of 100 logged dives in varied environments to attend the IEC.
  • Hold First Responder (CPR and First Aid) certification within the past 24 months.
  • Provide a medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.

The IDC prepares you to conduct all core SDI courses. You’ll learn to organize and present information, conduct skill development sessions, and supervise open water dives, enhancing your public speaking skills and proficiency in demonstrating scuba techniques. Key topics covered include:
